Moving Values to Action: The Process of Making Biopharmaceutical Bioethics an Everyday Practice
MISSION. VISION. VALUES.
These are the Northstars for every company. But, do you and your company know how to make your values really come alive?
Knowing how to effectively, efficiently, and consistently promote values within the complex biopharmaceutical industry can be challenging, especially without clear ethical standards.
Over the past few decades, the distinction between ethics and compliance has become blurred, resulting in an overreliance on regulatory requirements to address what are essentially ethical concerns – and more specifically – bioethical concerns.
At EthicsMatters LLC (EthicsMatters), we are on a mission to move values to ethical action by equipping organizational leaders to implement an intentional, systematic approach to bioethics.
A NEW LENS IS NEEDED
A NEW LENS IS NEEDED
Our Values-to-Action System™ ensures bioethics is embedded within daily operations and decision-making by employing a unified methodology to think through bioethical issues and by creating the organizational structure to support it.
OUR GOAL
To enhance the process of bioethical inquiry and implementation within biopharma and thus empower leaders to effectively, efficiently, and consistently innovate with integrity.
Although other advisors can provide expert input on specific bioethics issues, EthicsMatters is uniquely positioned to provide advice on both bioethics and organizational ethics issues.
Dr. Luann E. Van Campen, Founder and President of EthicsMatters has extensive experience implementing bioethics within a biopharmaceutical corporate environment, giving her a distinctive perspective on both. She’s been in your shoes.

Dr. Van Campen was Eli Lilly and Company’s first full-time bioethicist and one of the first in the industry to hold such a role. During her 10 years as Senior Advisor and Head of Bioethics, she and her team conducted nearly 400 consultation cases, developed 16 company positions, and created a bioethics framework for human biomedical research.
Her innovative efforts earned her Lilly’s
“They’re Making a Difference” recognition.

“Dr. Van Campen has been an invited lecturer in my course on Regulatory Science taught at the University of Michigan. She has been involved in this course for many years and regularly gets stellar reviews for her presentations and her insights. Great speaker with tremendous knowledge in the ethics field.”
